5 Days of DofE Gold Residential Adventure and fun in the New Forest

A Full Programme

The New Forest Outdoor Centre, surrounded by woodland in the heart of the New Forest is hosting an unmissable DofE  Gold Residential. Designed for anyone who loves the woodland environment, we are offering a multi activity residential to immerse yourself in the woods and woodland activities. Carve a spoon, throw an axe, explore the new forest by bike, learn some bushcraft skills as well as team tasks, high ropes and raft building challenges

Your Week

Based in the heart of a private estate will you will live, cook and take part in a range of activities with a small group of other people. You will sleep overnight in a shared shepherd hut with an option for a night in a hammock or under a tarp. Due to the nature of the venue cooking will mainly be over a fire. Group size is going to be a maximum of 16 and the instructors will ensure that you get to know each other quickly.

Our Team

The DofE Gold Residential programme is run by the team at New Forest Outdoor Centre. The New Forest Centre has been delivering quality outdoor programmes since 1996 and has a highly qualified and experienced staff team.
Our instructors will support you to make the most out of your week, balancing safety with fun. They will be on hand to deliver activities and help you as a group to manage living and eating together.

The Programme


Your DofE Gold Residential Week provides a fun shared residential experience whilst enjoying the New Forest National Park

Your week will be based mainly on site at the New Forest Outdoor Centre with activities on site in the surrounding woodland estate. Forest activities theme the week with archery, axe throwing, primitive fire lighting skills, campfire cooking and spoon carving. These these are combined with Team building challenges, mountain biking orienteering, high ropes and raft building to create a rich mix of experiences.

Being in the woods there is a compulsory camp fire each evening that you can sit round.

The final night can be spent be spent in a bivy or hammock getting you even closer to nature.

The activities are not compulsory, however we can tailor most activities so that everyone finds an appropriate amount of "stretch".

One of your challenges is to live communally with the other participants. You will be sharing a shepherd hut , planning and cooking your meals together as well as enjoying the activities.

2024 Total programme price of £390 includes £35 to the communal food kitty for your food purchases for the week,  activities, instruction, safety equipment and shared accommodation at New Forest Outdoor Centre.
